School Bus Safety

Something Every School District Must Have

pregame.jpg

There is something that should be a concern to every parent.  That being your childs safety to and from school.  Normally this is not a problem.  But, because it goes so smoothly most of the time there is a chance that the monotony could cause a driver to become complacent.  Every school district in America should implement a policy that ensures this will not happen.
The quickest and least costly is to require the bus driver to hang a magnetic sign in the lower window of the back door.  This would occur after every time there has been children aboard the bus.  The sign is to be removed from the window each morning before the driver begins his/her route. If the sign is left in the window, and there are children aboard the bus the driver would be reprimanded.  Like wise if the driver does not place the sign in the window at the end of each route.  This is a good solution to the problem for two reasons.  It ensures that the bus drivers go all the way to the back and it gives his supervisor a means to monitor his drivers.  The sign should say EMPTY, CLEAR or my personal favorite I CHECKED THE BACK SEAT.
Another way is to install  and alarm in the back of the bus.  The driver has ninety seconds to check the bus and turn off the alarm.  If the driver does not turn it off in time the lights flash and the horn goes off like a common car alarm.  There are concerns I have with this policy.  It could malfunction.  If it malfunctions, there is no way for the supervisor to see if the driver did his job.
These are just two solutions.  I'm sure there are more.  If you have any ideas please contact me.
I implore all of you to make sure your school district has one of these or a similar policy in place to keep your child safe while he/she is on the bus.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can not blame anyone but yourself, if you do nothing, and your district does not have an adequate policy in place!
